Bettie Page 1923-2008
With deep personal sadness I must announce that my dear friend and client Bettie Page passed away at 6:41pm PST this evening in a Los Angeles hospital. She died peacefully but had never regained consciousness after suffering a heart attack nine days ago.
She captured the imagination of a generation of men and women with her free spirit and unabashed sensuality. She is the embodiment of beauty.
Statement by Mark Roesler, business agent for Bettie Page

New Interview with Bettie Page
"I have no idea why I'm the only model who has had so much fame so long after quitting work."
The Los Angeles Times has a new interview with Bettie Page -- which is amazing considering the now 82-year-old Page rarely speaks to the press.
"I want to be remembered as I was when I was young and in my golden times…. I want to be remembered as a woman who changed people's perspectives concerning nudity in its natural form."

Gretchen Mol as Bettie Page
We're finally getting some new images of actress Gretchen Mol as Bettie Page in the upcoming theatrical bio-pic The Notorious Bettie Page. You can see Mol as the pin-up queen here, here, and here.
The Notorious Bettie Page will premiere September 14th at the Toronto Film Festival.
"The film follows Page from her childhood in Nashville to New York, where she moves to pursue her acting dreams. To make ends meet, Page starts modelling and soon gets into nude photography; it is not long before she is posing for sado-masochistic fetish pics. She becomes the first celebrity bondage model in the United States and finds herself at the centre of a Senate investigation into pornography. Soon after, in 1958, she undergoes a rather sudden religious conversion and disappears from the public eye."

"The film offers a provocative exploration of the real character and many facets of a successful pin-up girl (played by Gretchen Mol) whose deep religious beliefs and cheerful naiveté contrasted sharply with her iconic image. The film also stars Lili Taylor and David Strathairn."
